Welcome to my HOMEPAGE MARCH 1st 2022

Apologies, its me that’s mad, not the Hare; my last Homepage was on May Day 2021 so Sir John Tenniel’s March Hare welcomes in my latest Homepage, only ten months after the last one. Apologies – a long lockdown and hibernation for this dormouse is the feeble excuse.

A CELLO CONCERTO IS MY FINAL COMMISSION

Here is Luis Serrano Alarcon giving valuable advice about his Cello Concerto which grandson Andy and I premiered with the Union Musical Santa Cecilia de Villar del Arzobispo on October 16th 2021.

In August my second son died, and our lives were put back together with having the premiere of my last commission, a Cello Concerto by Luis Serrano Alarcon, commissioned originally in memory of my third son William, but played in October in Spain in a concert in memory of both of them. I am sending you a link to the video of the premiere with Andy my eldest grandson and Luis’ incredible band. Premiere of the Cello concerto by Alarcon. Please turn off the video and just listen, terrible conducting. Rule No 1 put your stand at the right height…THAT MEANS YOU REYNISH! Unemployable https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luE3xjiKk0A

The work is scored for 3353:4331:T4P Piano, lasts about 21.30 and is a magnificent addition to the cello solo repertoire, with wonderful writing for all the soloists in the orchestra.

ACB COMPOSITION COMPETITION

There are over a thousand community bands in the United States and more across the globe who are performing concert band music. These ensembles play music from across the spectrum - show tunes, patriotic selections, marches, transcriptions, new works for band. These bands are looking for new music that fits a more traditional style of concert band literature that audiences will enjoy. Composers should keep this audience in mind for their submission to this contest.

LATEST ADDITION TO NEW SERIES FROM MAECENAS for

WOODWIND AND SAXOPHONES

Brilliantly re-scored, 2232:2ATB this fantastic little march enters the series of three romantic orchestral miniatures, lovingly rescored for the same combination by Malcolm Binney, giving us a chance for complete contrast in our programmes. Maurice Ravel was reportedly dissatisfied with his Pavane pour une infante defunte but it remains one of his most popular works today, as is Gabriel Faure's Pavane; finally Malcolm turned to Elgar for a winning transcription of his Chanson de Matin,

Also new two works by Adam Gorb, scored for chamber ensemble.
